I hardly ever decide beforehand what kind of creature I am going to make. I just start knitting, and the creature creates itself, making it clearer with each step how they wish to look.

These were the only two colours of yarn left: light grey and canary yellow. I wasn’t convinced that they would work together but I tried it anyway. I knitted the body with the head, and the four limbs separately. I could already see this creature is a boy.

I chose the nose and eyes for him and crocheted most of the face and the limbs inside out, leaving out the space for the foot.

I crocheted the the chin and put the nose and eyes in their place. At this point, having a face, the creature already seems to have a personality. This can be very misleading though. In reality, he will not show his true self until his head is stuffed.

Here he is!

I crocheted his tummy, and stuffed his head and body.

I closed his body, crocheting his bottom, and I crocheted the legs on.

I crocheted the soles of his feet. He is able to stand up now.

I crocheted his arms on.

I crocheted fingers for him.

I crocheted his ears, and embroidered a smile on his face. I cut six hairs of whiskers for him.

I tied his three pairs of whiskers, and knitted a tail for him.

I crocheted his tail inside out, stuffed the end of it a tiny bit, and crocheted it on.

I could see straight away that his name must be Max.
