Once upon a time, there was a big boy called Aaron. He was tall and strong, he had beautiful eyes, and he was really talented. He was able to remember everything that he had ever heard or read about. If you think about this, you will realise that very few people are capable of this, so Aaron’s talent was envied by many. In fact, there was someone in particular who was really jealous of Aaron’s gift: the Forgetful Figure.

Aidan loved space. He knew everything that was possible to know about space, he designed and built spacecraft out of Lego, all the time. When the sky was clear at night, Aidan went out to the garden with Dad and they looked at stars and planets through a telescope. Whenever Aidan was upset, and he did not want to go to school, he sighed: ‘Let’s go to space instead.’ Aidan especially wanted to go to the Red Planet: Mars.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Dylan who just loved getting dirty. He loved digging in the mud, walking through puddles, throwing a handful of dust into the air so that it flew everywhere, and he loved any other activity that made a mess. In fact, the dirtier he got, the happier he was. Unlike some adults around him who thought that Dylan should not get dirty all the time, he should be careful to keep his clothes clean.

Believe me, Harrison’s room was a real mess. Well, in Mum’s opinion, anyway. Harrison himself actually thought it was perfectly fine. ‘Don’t forget your French word cards’, Mum reminded him one morning. Harrison was nervous before each and every one of his tests: ‘Where are they? Where are they?’, he kept shouting. ‘They should be in your school folder, shouldn’t they?’, Mum suggested. Harrison checked. They were not. ‘Then, probably they are at the very bottom of that rubbish heap’, Mum pointed to one of the smallish mountains of books, Lego, empty boxes (that one day, would certainly be useful for something or other), dirty and clean clothes, etc.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful little girl called Hazel. She loved and collected toy cars. Her passion for toy cars originated from one special car: the ‘Yellow 2000’ that she got as a present from a kind old lady at the till of a charity shop. Hazel was browsing among the toys in the shop and she found this little car: a very old and somewhat broken, faded yellow sport car that had the number 2000 written on its bonnet.

There was a knock on the window. Johnny woke with a start. He looked at his little sister Annie, but she was still sleeping soundly. ‘Who could that be?’, Johnny wondered. ‘How could anyone knock on an upstairs window anyway?’ ‘Meow’, said the family’s ginger cat, Alice who was not supposed to be in the children’s bedroom at night. Johnny crept to the window and peered outside. There was a dragon there.

Once upon a time, there was a wonderful boy called Johnny. He was loved by everyone, he had many friends, but his very best friend was Nanny. Johnny loved Nanny dearly and Nanny loved Johnny with all her heart. When they met, they had the best of time. Nanny took Johnny to many interesting places, they had countless great adventures together. Johnny wished he could live with Nanny and Grandad in their house so they could be together every single day.
