I’ve seen my friend Alice drumming in the church, but that was quite different from seeing her drumming in a pub with her band the Blu Tone.

John the singer, John the guitarist and John the keyboard player seem like good people, and they evidently love their music. Alice though, Alice lives in her music; when she drums, she is one hundred per cent in the act of drumming – the world around her ceases to exist for her. Still, she always has a cheeky smile for her audience.

It seems like it’s no effort whatsoever for Alice to drum, as if her arms simply continued in the drumsticks to express herself with them more easily.

The walls of the little room in the pub seemed actually shaking to the rhythm of the music, our wooden bench was dancing under us, following the drum beat.

The staff of the pub naturally danced around, and a lovely elderly gentleman made a performance dancing unselfconsciously and I dare say, quite professionally while his laughing partner couldn’t really decide whether it was appropriate for her to join him wholeheartedly.

I always enjoy concerts in cosy pubs, but this one was even more special because each and every member of the audience was there personally for the four people of Blu Tone.

I will definitely be there when they perform here again.
